Diploma in Business and Management

This new 3-term programme, starting in September 2010, will provide direct access to the second year of an undergraduate degree in Business. The academic requirement for the Diploma is good high school graduation grades plus up to one year of further study.

The successful completion of the Diploma will give students direct access to the second year of the following degrees:

  • BSc in Business (Finance)
  • BSc in Business (International Business)
  • BSc in Business (Marketing)

Study structure

Students will be studying all of the following seven modules:

Accounting and Finance

You will develop an understanding of the principles and key concepts relating to the study of accounting and finance. This includes working with practical accounts as well as a critical understanding of contemporary issues.

Business Law

You will be introduced to the key elements of law affecting business decision making and operations. This will include an understanding of the legal system, organisational structure and the law of contract.

Introduction to Economics

You will develop an understanding of key concepts and tools in micro and macro economics. The course will focus on developing an understanding of applying economic concepts to real world examples.

Principles of Marketing

You will be introduced to fundamental concept of marketing as well as working with live studies applying your knowledge base to practical examples. The course will also focus on developing a critical analysis of key concepts in the area.

Organisational Behaviour

You will be introduced to the key concepts relating to the way that organisations behave. This will include learning about issues relating to structure, culture, forms of leadership and other related subject areas.

Skills and tools

The module will focus on building skills and tools essential to moving up to the higher levels of a Business related degree course This includes skills of communication, information technology and building an effective research skillset.

English language course

The English language course runs through the 3 terms of the programme and seeks to support and develop your ability to cope on the 1st year of an undergraduate programme. You will develop core skills of writing, listening, reading and speaking as well as University related skills such as working in a seminar group or lecture hall.
