English language requirements and additional tuition
The International Study Centre at Sussex offers additional English language tuition if you don't meet the requirements of
- IELTS 5.0 overall with minimum of 5.0 in writing or equivalent - for the International Foundation Year programmes
- IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components or equivalent - for the International Year 1 Diploma programmes
- IELTS 5.5 with 5.5 in all components or equivalent - for the Three-term Pre-Masters programme
- IELTS 6.0 with minimum 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in all other components or equivalent - for the Two-term Pre-Masters
If you don’t have a current IELTS grade, you may still apply to the ISC as we accept a list of other recognised test providers (Secure English Language Tests) and we can also assess your English through our own bespoke test.
For tuition before the International Foundation and International Year One, we offer English Language Preparation (ELP). It normally consists of one or two terms of study with 25 hours per week of tuition plus 10 hours per week of self-study.
For students who want to access our Pre-Masters, we offer English for Pre-Masters (EPM):
- 1 term for students with IELTS 4.5/5.0 or equivalent
- 2 terms for students with IELTS 3.5/4.0 or equivalent
