In addition to the tuition fees, accommodation costs, and insurance cover, you should ensure that you have adequate funds to cover your living expenses during your period of study at the University of Sussex.

In general England is a relatively expensive place to live. The cost of living in Brighton is a little lower than London, but it is higher than many other places in the UK.

A breakdown of how your living expenses might be allocated on a monthly basis is given below. Please note that these figures are for illustration only - depending on your lifestyle you may require more. The suggested costs try to reflect a student budget and do not cover luxury goods such as designer clothes or the highest-quality food.

Expense
per month
Utility bills (water/electricity/gas)* £50
Telephone (national and local calls) £30
Food/ housekeeping £160
Local travel £60
Books/stationery £40
Clothing £30
Socialising/leisure £80
Miscellaneous (healthcare, etc) £40
Total £490

*These charges may be included in the rent in some accommodation.

Note that the cost of accommodation on campus is likely to be lower than rents in the private sector if you move out of University-managed accommodation later on during your period of study in England.
