Getting to the University by airWhen you apply, you can arrange a taxi transfer from either London Gatwick (LGW) or London Heathrow (LHR) airports. See the price of airport transfers on the fees page. London Gatwick: The University is closest to London Gatwick airport. Campus is approximately 30 miles from Gatwick and the journey by taxi to the University will take around half an hour. There is also a train station at the airport. By rail the journey takes about 30 minutes to Brighton or Lewes stations, where you need to change to get a local train to Falmer station. London Heathrow: If you are landing at London Heathrow airport, it is a 90 minute journey by taxi. The coach service is the easiest way to get from Heathrow to Brighton city centre by public transport. Getting to the city centre from campusBy rail: The local train station (Falmer) is only a few minutes’ walk from the University, opposite the campus entrance. Falmer Station is well served by frequent local trains which run between Brighton and Lewes - the journey to Falmer Station from Brighton takes 8 minutes. By bus: there are frequent bus services which pick up at various places around the campus and go to the city centre. The journey takes around 30 minutes. A saver ticket is the cheapest and most flexible way of travelling on Brighton & Hove buses and allows you unlimited travel in the area for a day. By bicycle: cycle lanes run all the way from campus into the city. Getting to London from BrightonBy rail: Brighton station is the terminus of a main train line to London. A fast train departs twice an hour and takes 55 minutes from Brighton to London Victoria train station. If you are going to London for the day, a Travel Card is the best ticket to buy – it includes return travel to London, and unlimited free travel on the London Underground (tube) and London Transport buses for the day. By coach: To London Victoria Coach Station, services depart from Brighton every hour during the day and the journey takes approximately one hour and 45 minutes. Getting around the UKBy rail: Brighton is very well connected to the UK’s rail network. For most rail services to other parts of the UK, you will need to change in London. By road: The University is on the A27 road between Brighton and Lewes. The A27 links to the motorway network via the M23/A23 road to London. By coach: Coaches from Brighton depart Pool Valley Coach Station to destinations around the UK. Travelling to EuropeIt is relatively easy and inexpensive to get to other European Countries. By air: There are a number of discount airlines which offer cheap tickets through the internet. You can reach a wide range of European destinations from nearby Gatwick airport, but many cheaper flights go from London Stansted and London Luton airports. By sea: Passenger ferries operate between Dieppe and Newhaven, which has a direct train link to Falmer. Via the Channel Tunnel: Eurostar operates train services to and from continental Europe via the Channel Tunnel. It is easiest to board the train at London St Pancras Railway Station. Your accommodation will be close to the ISC, the library and all the other facilities on campus.
