A lively, friendly and welcoming university town by the sea with a population of 20,000, (7,000 of whom are students) located in the safest county in the UK. The area remains unspoilt with many opportunities for outdoor activities such as sailing and surfing. The coastline to the north and south abounds in fine beaches with hills and mountains to the east.

Aberystwyth University was established in 1872. In 2007 Aberystwyth was voted best University town in the UK whilst the University is in the top ten for Student Satisfaction. The Campus provides a safe, friendly and lively environment along with excellent academic, sporting and entertainment resources.

Approximately 12% of the student community come from outside the United Kingdom making for an exciting, cosmopolitan experience.

Aberystwyth offers guaranteed university accommodation for all years of a course. The University has recently invested £30m in creating new residences and offers on-campus and sea front halls.

A number of internationally renowned research facilities are located in the town including the National Library of Wales, and IBERS, the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences, a world class research and education centre.

An on-campus sports centre offers sports facilities and clubs. Aberystwyth has the largest Arts Centre in Mid and West Wales and a lively social scene.

The Students Union, voted in the top ten of unions in the country, is at the heart of student life in Aberystwyth and offers top class entertainment and over 160 clubs and societies.

The University’s location on the shores of Cardigan Bay ensures that as well as a wide range of indoor sports, our students can make full use of the great outdoors in sports that include sailing, body surfing, diving, horse riding and canoeing.

Aberystwyth Arts Centre offers a varied programme of arts events including theatre, dance, comedy, music and visual arts.
