All accommodation is self-catered, and kitchens are equipped with cooking facilities. You will, however, need to provide your own cutlery and pans. These can be bought cheaply from local shops, or in the form of a ‘Kitchen Pack’, which is available from the University Housing Office, at a cost of £30.
When you do arrive at the University, you must report to the Main Reception to pick up your keys. The Main Reception is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
When you move into your room you will be given inventory sheets. It is important that you report any discrepancies or damage within 24 hours. If you do not complete the inventory you may be charged for damage that was not caused by yourself.
A bedding pack will be placed in your room prior to your arrival, which will consist of a duvet, duvet cover, pillow, pillow case, fitted sheet and a towel. This will cost £25 and will be charged directly to your student account.
Special discount bus permits are available from Newport Transport, who will be attending the Fresher’s Fayre, or their location details can be obtained from the centre staff at any point. The passes cost £6 for a week pass, £23 for a month pass and £180 for a year pass – provided it is purchased at the beginning of the academic year. The bus permit is available on all Newport Bus routes.
Please note that dependant on your study plan, you may be required to move rooms during your course, and may have to sign separate contracts for each tenancy period.
Please see the ISC Frequently Asked Questions Page to answer any other queries you may have.
In university residences, students are expected to behave in accordance with commonly accepted rules of good behaviour and to abide by the clauses of the University accommodation licence agreement. ISC students who have a confirmed place in University residences should familiarize themselves with this document pre-arrival and ensure that they sign the original at the Accommodation Office immediately upon their arrival. Please note all on-campus accommodation is now no smoking.

For those students who have not yet got their university ID, or who miss the free shuttle bus, it is a 5 minute walk into town, where local buses run regularly.
All of the accommodation featured at Opal is en-suite. The accommodation is arranged into apartments of 3 to 6 study bedrooms. Each apartment has a well equipped kitchen, and all bedrooms are fully furnished. An internet connection is available in every room, which is free of charge.
