Head of Centre, Vernon Dando

Welcome from Vernon Dando, Head of Wales International Study Centre

"I hope you will soon be joining us at the Wales International Study Centre, based in Newport, where you will have a wonderful opportunity to study in the UK, at one of Wales’ excellent universities. I love working and living here. Who wouldn't?

Here in Caerleon, we have a beautiful campus. If you venture a short way off campus you will find the picturesque village of Caerleon with its Roman remains, scenic riverside locations, quaint cottages and annual arts festivals. The amphitheatre, which is believed to be the site of King Arthur’s Round Table, is today a setting for popular theatrical events and celebrations. Interesting buildings and winding side streets, student-friendly residents, 20 pubs and plenty of restaurants means Caerleon has a lot to offer. The ISC teaching facilities that we have been allocated by the University of Wales, Newport are superb. Both staff and students love it here. In Caerleon, we have easy access to the stunning scenery of South and Mid Wales. Less than 30 minutes away is the vibrant city of Cardiff and even closer is its rapidly developing sister city, Newport. It is difficult to imagine a better place to teach or in which to study."

Students on campusInternational study centre students are fully intergrated in to student life on the Carleon campus. Living in university managed accommodation is a great way to make friends. WISC students live in the purpose-built on campus student village close to the WISC teaching facility, library and all campus facilities. The university campus and accommodation is fully non-smoking.
See our accommodation page for more information.

"I socialise with my room mates and my friends. There are regular nights out on Wednesdays and Fridays and people often have small parties in the accommodation. I am always meeting new people from different places. Each flat has four or five people in it so it is very easy to meet people from different countries, from different courses and they have different ideas and views on everything so it is very interesting."
