Newport is home to the Wales International Study Centre, which prepares you for academic life at university in Wales. After graduating, you can stay on campus to study here at Newport or progress to a degree course at a further nine partner universities in Wales.

Considered the ‘Gateway to Wales’, Newport is just 2 hours by train from London, and close to the capital, Cardiff. Our campus is compact with great facilities and has a student population of 8,000.

Your accommodation is guaranteed for all years of your course. Settling in and making friends is easy at the purpose-built student village on the Caerleon campus. There’s a range of rooms to suit all budgets, and many benefit from en-suite facilities and high-speed Internet connection. A free bus service during term time takes students to and from the City Campus.

There are plenty of opportunities for playing your favourite sports at Newport. You can get your adrenaline pumping with sailing and windsurfing, dry-slope skiing, caving, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, orienteering and hill walking. Or if you prefer calmer pursuits, you can play golf at the Celtic Manor Resort, host to the Ryder Cup 2010.

We’ve plenty of classes to keep you fit including martial arts, aerobics, yoga, boxercise, circuits and step. You can work out in the modern fitness suite with cardiovascular, resistance and free weights equipment. Or play badminton, volleyball, basketball, netball, cricket, hockey, 5-a-side football, trampolining, gymnastics and short tennis in the sports hall.

Academic focus

Whatever your ambitions, you can achieve them with our widely acclaimed courses, especially in computing, business and engineering. Our commitment to state-of-theart facilities has seen us spend £50 million on Newport Business School and Newport School of Media, Art and Design in recent years.

Extensive library resources help you study effectively. You have full access to all our reference materials including conference papers, books, literature, journal articles, electronic resources, databases and special collections. If you have any questions while you study, our professional librarians provide advice and help in all subject areas. Wireless zones, computer stations, the latest software and a team of IT support means that you’ll always be connected and can enhance your computer skills throughout your time studying.

Student support is very important in Newport. We believe that everyone should feel a part of the university from the day they start and our Student Support is always open to help you with everything you need. From health and welfare to counseling and careers. As such, we also offer offer one of the largest Peer Guiding Schemes in the UK. On arrival senior students will mentor you, helping you settle in to university life quickly.

When you join Newport, you are automatically part of the Students’ Union. The SU offers some of the most exciting clubs and societies in Wales as well as special events like Balls, dances, concerts and comedy. The SU also runs the campus radio station so you’ll never miss out.
