Structure of degrees in America
Undergraduate degrees
Undergraduate degrees at Woodbury University and across America are taught over four years and earn you one of the following bachelor's degrees depending upon the area you choose to study:
- Bachelor of Architecture
- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Fine Arts
- Bachelor of Science
First Year
In your first year, as a freshman, the focus is on:
- getting a solid grounding in a wide range of subjects.
- the required General Education curriculum which includes English communication, mathematical concepts, logic, art history, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences.
- introductory courses in what you hope will become your main discipline of study - your 'major'. For example, you might take Economics as a freshman if you wish to study a Business major.
Second Year
In your second year or sophomore year, you will:
- complete the core curriculum and advance in some subjects to the next tier.
- choose electives in subjects that especially interest you.
- begin taking prerequisite classes for your major if you have decided on it (however, you are not required to formally declare a major).
Third Year
In the third year, as a junior, you will:
- have declared a major.
- undertake more focused and in-depth study.
- begin the advanced coursework for your major.
Fourth Year
In your fourth year as a senior, you will:
- take your last exams.
- gain work experience on an internship.
- complete your final classes required for your bachelor's degree.
- have earned between 120 and 160 credit hours, depending on your major
MBA degree
Woodbury University's MBA degree in California is awarded after completion of 36 credits.
You can complete the Woodbury University MBA in 12 months by following the Intensive MBA program. The standard MBA takes two calendar years to complete.
Unlike the 2-semester undergraduate academic year, MBA programs at Woodbury University are taught over six sessions per calendar year. Each session is 7 weeks in duration, with a 1-week (or longer) break between sessions.
Each MBA course is worth 3 credits, and normally students take one course per session. You need to complete 12 courses to be awarded an MBA degree.
12-month Intensive MBA structure
- taught through a combination of weekday, evening (6-10pm) and weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday) classes
- You take two courses per 7-week session (12 credits per semester)
- Each course meets once a week for seven weeks
- You can join the program at the beginning of any 7-week session
