FEATURES OF THE ESL TRANSITION PROGRAM Building Vital Study Skills The program is designed with one objective: to equip you with everything you need to succeed on your degree course. The ESL Transition Program does more than just improve your English. You will also develop the practical skills you will need to thrive at University, such as comprehension of academic texts, research methods, examination formats, time management, as well as essay preparation and writing. Personal Academic Monitoring Each phase of the ESL Transition Program includes the creation and completion of an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This provides you with weekly-individualized one-on-one counseling and progress reporting to ensure maximum success within the program. Integrate into Campus Life You will be fully enrolled at the University, have access to all facilities and you can participate in campus events and extra-curricular activities. You also will be expected to communicate entirely in English. Such total immersion in the campus culture and environment will be invaluable for your future studies. International Peer Advisors In addition to the 15 contact hours of study, students are paired with an International Peer Advisor. These advisors are "guiding friends" who assist students in choosing classes, selecting majors, making friends and tutoring. Invaluable Academic Credits Small class sizes mean your professor will be able to monitor your progress carefully and will know when you are ready for academic courses. As you develop, you will gradually accumulate academic credits while you are improving your English proficiency. Assured Progression Enrolling on the ESL Transition Program gives you the security of knowing that you have satisfied the academic requirements for admission and have received the offer of a University place. In addition, your visa documents are issued by the university and are valid for the entire duration of your studies. You have access to the entire choice of majors at Woodbury. Language School Option If your English proficiency does not yet reach the required level for the ESL Transition Program, you can begin your studies with ESL classes at the Woodbury University International Study Center on campus. These are delivered by the Language Training Division of Study Group.
