Your pathway to undergraduate study

Study Group offers a range of pathway programmes to help prepare international students to begin a business degree. The programmes are preparatory courses delivered at an International Study Centre on the university campus. Successful completion of your pathway means you can progress to your chosen degree at the same university.

International Foundation Year

The International Foundation Year prepares international students for the first year of undergraduate study at university.

  • Teaches the essential skills to meet the progression entry requirements and begin their degree at university with more confidence
  • Offers a tailored combination of academic modules and English language support.

Extended International Foundation Year

The Extended International Foundation Year gives extra support to international students before they progress to the first year of their chosen undergraduate degree.

  • For students who are unable to gain direct entry to the International Foundation Year
  • Students are able to develop their English language skills whilst learning business.

International Year One

The International Year One is an intensive preparatory programme equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree. You will study at the International Study Centre and then move on to the University to complete your degree when you achieve the required grades.

  • Students progress to the second year of their chosen university degree
  • Offers modules in English and study skills alongside business studies.

Extended International Year One

The Extended International Year One gives students extra support with their English language skills and business knowledge. It is delivered at the International Study Centre and equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate business degree and students can progress to year two of university study.

The University of Strathclyde

The University of Strathclyde has a renowned reputation for connections to business, industry and government. The university is situated in the heart of Glasgow, one of Scotland’s largest cities.

The state-of-the-art Strathclyde Business School is one of just 89 business schools in the world to hold triple accreditation by AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS (MBA Today News 2018). Following a £23 million refurbishment, the faculty now boasts a specialist centre for excellence which houses teaching, learning and research facilities.

The Management Development Programme is a core part of all degrees at the Business School. This element provides students with the opportunity to develop business and commercial awareness with graduate employability skills. Kingston University, London

Kingston University, London is the university of choice for many aspiring entrepreneurs. It is one of the top universities in the UK for graduate start-ups (Annual Higher Education Business and Community Interaction Survey 2016), due to its focus on practical career-led learning and developing industry links.

Students have the chance to go on a work placement sandwich year between their second and third year. As well as providing an opportunity to apply the skills learnt at university, taking part in work experience is a great way to build industry links, with many students going on to work with their placement company after graduation.

Kingston University’s Business School was rated ‘excellent’ for teaching by the Higher Education Funding Council and was the first in the world to be awarded triple accreditation by the Association of MBAs. Thanks to its location just 25 minutes from Central London, students get first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in a global business hub.

If you have IELTS 4.5 (4.0 in all bands) or equivalent, you will need one term of English Language Preparation. You can start in in June or September before starting the International Year One in September or January respectively.

We also offer English Language Preparation free to any student joining the International Year One who meets the previous International Year One IELTS requirement of 5.0 overall.

There are 2 options available:

  • 4 week course – for students with IELTS 5.5 but lower component scores
  • 8 week course – for students with IELTS 5.0 overall

English Language Preparation will be offered free of charge for any student confirming on the International Year One Programme who fails to achieve IELTS 5.5 overall (5.5 in all components) but does achieve a minimum of IELTS 5.0 overall.

Students achieving IELTS 5.5 overall but lower component scores will be offered a 4 week course and students achieving IELTS 5.0 overall will be offered an 8 week course.
Any student achieving IELTS 4.5 (minimum 4.0 in components) or equivalent, will need to take a full term of English Language Preparation at full cost.
