33 members of Study Group staff awarded HEA Fellowship
Study Group is honoured to have 33 members of its academic community awarded the prestigious Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship and Senior Fellowship, demonstrating a high level of commitment to teaching, learning and leadership in higher education.
HEA Fellowship is a qualification that requires higher education professionals to align their practice and experience to Advance HE’s professional standards framework, a globally-recognised framework for benchmarking success within higher education teaching.
The process, which can take up to a year to complete, is underpinned by scholarship and encourages applicants to critically reflect on the impact their teaching, learning and leadership practices have had on students’ learning. It culminates with an application that is assessed by Advance HE.
Rachel Martins, Study Group's Engineering Subject Lead at the Leeds International Study Centre, found pursuing the fellowship led to enhancements in practice, specifically materials design. The process “updated my knowledge of curriculum planning and assessment design, which helped me to contribute to the module redesign for 2022/23,” says Martins.
For their continued professional development, Study Group staff are encouraged to share their practice, expertise and professional insights across the Study Group network. Our recently awarded Fellows are now encouraged to support and mentor others in the next academic year to further embed effective teaching and leadership that deliver high quality experiences for our international students.
Our teachers’ commitment to the international student experience
Joe Johnson, Global Head of Employability at Study Group, says that “the application requires that you reflect on your own practice and you realise the achievements you are making. You realise that you are doing the right things that meet the criteria of the Professional Standards Framework, and it does help to highlight any areas where you might want to put in a little bit more emphasis as well,” he says.
Study Group is proud to celebrate these achievements and congratulates everyone who has had their skills, leadership and commitment recognised through Fellowships and Senior Fellowships this year.
