Durham University student perspectives: from International Study Centre to the final year of a university degree

Back in September 2017, Study Group welcomed students to Durham University International Study Centre for the first time, as they arrived at Queen’s Campus in Stockton-on-Tees to begin their pathway programme.

Since then, Study Group has supported over 1,000 students from more than 30 different countries through the International Study Centre and into one of the world’s best universities.

2021 is a significant year, as it marks when Durham University International Study Centre’s first cohort of undergraduate students will be completing their degrees and graduating from the university.

James Pitman, UK and EU Managing Director at Study Group, shares a message of congratulations to all graduating students:

“The first cohort of Study Group students are now coming to the end of their undergraduate degrees at Durham University as they work towards to their graduation.

"We are delighted that they have been able to successfully progress to study at a globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence to achieve their education goals.

“We look forward to celebrating our students’ success at the graduation ceremonies later in the year and on behalf of Study Group, we wish our students the very best of luck for their future endeavours”.

Nutta-uea’s student experience

Nutta-uea from Thailand studied the International Foundation Year in Science and Engineering at the International Study Centre, before progressing to Durham University to study BSc (Hons) Chemistry. She wrote a blog about making the most of her university experience by joining sports clubs and the benefits societies bring to students. Read her blog here.

Jia Lin’s student experience

Jia Lin from Malaysia studied the International Foundation Year in Science and Engineering at the International Study Centre. She progressed to BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences and wrote a blog all about what it is like to study Biological Sciences and the community the collegiate system offers. Read her blog here.

Recently she caught up with Yvonne, one of her teachers from the International Study Centre. Yvonne discovers how important Jia Lin found the support from staff at the ISC before she progressed to university and her experience at Hatfield College. Watch the full video here.

Rumaysa’s student experience

Rumaysa from Pakistan studied the International Foundation Year in Business, Economics, Accounting and Finance before progressing to study BA (Hons) Business and Management. Rumaysa wrote a blog reflecting on her time studying in the UK over the past four years and letter to her younger self about the things she wishes she had known at the start of her journey. Read her blog here.
