Study Group welcomes news that New Zealand is fully reopening borders to international students earlier than planned

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, New Zealand’s international borders will reopen to all visa holders on 31 July 2022, two months earlier than planned. An initial 5,000 international students were allowed to enter New Zealand in April.

“We are delighted that students from around the world will soon be able to study in person once more in New Zealand,” says Alex Chevrolle, Study Group Director of External Relations for Australia and New Zealand.

“I agree with Minister Chris Hipkins when he says New Zealand has an excellent international education brand and is universally regarded as a place that students want to come to study. After all, New Zealand offers world leading education products, a safe and friendly place to study, and it has a great reputation for cultural diversity and inclusiveness.

“It’s widely accepted international students play an important role in creating a prosperous New Zealand so we have a particular interest in welcoming them back to the country to take advantage of the excellent study opportunities including our University of Auckland Foundation Studies Certificate programme at Taylors College and the University of Waikato courses at University of Waikato College.”
