The United States prioritizes International Education through a new coordinated strategy

International students hoping to study in the United States have received further positive news this week as America announced plans to introduce the nation’s first-ever coordinated approach to international education.

In a joint statement by the U.S. Departments of State and Education on 26 July 2021, the U.S. government has pledged “to support a renewed focus on international education.” This unified approach will concentrate on recruitment of international students to the USA, as well as international research collaboration, and the internationalization of American campuses and classrooms, among other initiatives.

The coordinated approach will translate positive welcome into tangible policies aimed at welcoming and retaining educational links across the globe. U.S. Federal agencies will encourage international education and implement “fair, efficient, and transparent” student-visa processes. The initiative follows an announcement earlier in July that President Biden would cancel the proposal to limit student visas to four years by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who cited the lasting impact of his own experience studying overseas and meeting foreign leaders who describe the importance of their experience studying in the U.S.

Responding to the announcement, Joshua Rubin, Study Group’s Executive Vice President for Higher Education in North America, commended the plan:
